Nigel Packham

Dr. Nigel Packham is the Associate Director of NASA Johnson Space Center’s Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate and has become a World-renowned speaker on the subject of how NASA manages risk. During his time in this role, he was the Project Manager for the Columbia Crew Survival Investigation that examined the Columbia accident from the crew survival perspective.

Prior to this appointment, he served as the Chief of the Environmental Factors Branch of the Space Life Sciences Directorate, whose office had responsibility for the oversight of environmental quality (water, air, microbiological, radiation and acoustics) for all for all Human Spaceflight Programs.

He started his career at NASA in the Engineering Directorate working on Space Shuttle, International Space Station and Advanced Life Support Systems. In this position he also served as the Commander of a four-person crew that spent 91 days inside a 6-meter diameter chamber to demonstrate the capabilities of advanced systems for air, water and waste recovery for long-duration missions.

Dr. Packham holds a B.SC. in Chemistry and Biology from the Guildhall University, the Diploma of Imperial College, University of London and a Ph.D. in Physical Electrochemistry from Texas A&M University.

Jon Liesmaki

Jon is responsible for deploying Harmon’s Corporate EHS Management System to all Harmon project sites and manufacturing locations. Jon has almost 20 years of experience in the EHS field and leads regional safety managers to ensure that all Harmon workers go home safely at the end of the day. Jon joined Harmon in 2018 and is part of the Executive Leadership team aligning the annual EHS Management Plan along with the company’s strategic plan.

Winston Newman

Winston Newman is an experienced local safety professional and currently the Corporate Director of Safety at Kaufman Lynn Construction. He boasts an exciting 20 years in the industry where he has gained valuable experience from several notable national giants including Masco Corp., Turner Construction, Balfour Beatty Construction, and Amerisure Insurance; and local stars such as Kast Construction. Although Winston loves the world of construction safety, in his spare time, you find him doing what he loves which includes spending time with his two sons, staying active outdoors, or mentoring others interested in a career in safety.

Laura Harting

Laura Harting is the Director of EHS at Tesla, where she leads safety oversight for North American Sales, Service, Delivery and Collison centers and drives global construction and contractor safety programs. With a career spanning petroleum upstream operations and large-scale oil and gas projects in Alaska, she brings deep expertise in safety management for high-stakes environments. Laura has pioneered construction and contractor health and safety programs with integration of HOP principles and SIF prevention, implemented across projects worldwide, setting a benchmark for the industry.

Laura holds a B.S. in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University and is a Certified Safety Professional and member of the American Society of Safety Professionals. She resides in Reno, Nevada, with her husband, Kaleb, and daughter, Vanna.
