Synopsis and overview of the session

According to cyber.gov.au – the government defence site, Australia has seen a notable rise in mobile cyberattacks, with a 147% increase in mobile malware detections in 2024 compared to the previous year.

Of the 33.5 million mobile connections in Australia in 2024, over 20 million are used predominantly for business. Mobile knowledge workers, field-based staff, remote workers, WFH and specialised logistics, all rely on mobile connectivity.

Mobile devices are now seen as a vulnerable point of entry into organisational systems – using tactics like phishing and smishing (SMS phishing) to steal information; malware and ransomware attacks, planting spyware, and especially device OS vulnerabilities and app-based attacks.

This opens a new frontier of exploitation and added pressure on admins to protect business mobile endpoints.

Focus Network in collaboration with imei invite you along to join this upcoming lunch where we will be discussing how mitigation strategies including device management tools and best practices, authentication and policy enforcement, encryption, permissions and app management are all affective first line of defences– mostly easier said than done.

Some of the key areas we will explore and provide insights around further include:

    • How Mobile Threat Defence and Management technologies are evolving and maturing – what is state of the art as we enter 2025?
    • Gain insights into the latest mobile cyberattack trends, including phishing, smishing, malware, ransomware, and OS vulnerabilities, and learn why mobile devices are becoming a primary target for cybercriminals.
    • Explore practical approaches to protecting mobile endpoints, such as device management tools, authentication protocols, and policy enforcement techniques tailored for business use.
    • Discover how encryption, permissions control, and app management can mitigate risks and safeguard sensitive business information against mobile-based threats.
    • Learn best practices for developing and enforcing comprehensive mobile security policies that empower admins and employees to proactively defend against evolving threats.
